Excerpts:

According to a new analysis from Malwarebytes, when compared to iPhone users, Android users share less of their personal information for promotional deals, more frequently use security tools, and more regularly create and manage unique passwords for their many online accounts.

They also, it turns out, fall victim to fewer scams.
The reasons for this are complex and hard to identify, but Malwarebytes’ original research can provide a clue. Namely, iPhone users were slightly more likely than Android users (55% compared to 50%) to agree with the following statement:

“I trust the security measures on my mobile/phone to keep me safe.”

That trust could have an adverse effect, in that iPhone users do not feel the need to change their behavior when making online purchases, and they have less interest in (or may simply not know about) using additional cybersecurity measures, like antivirus.

Comment:

This pretty much says that we should hold ourselves as the first line of defense instead of purely relying on technologies (like AV solutions, reputed platform safety) to keep ourselves safe online.

Want the real reason everyone is scared to say?

iPhone users are used to Apple doing everything for them. From deciding the best settings for their devices to complete security. And when Apple does something wrong, or doesn't protect them, users keep whining like everything is job of Apple and not themselves.

Android users, on the other side, don't rely on Google as much as iPhone users rely on Apple. Google will take care of something, but not everything so each user has to decide on its own what's good and what's bad. And by doing that, people actually learn about threats and how to protect themselves.

Let me be clear, Apple makes great devices—no doubt in that. But the way they babysit their users... it seems like their devices are made for people that struggle to understand technology or are just lazy to set their devices by their needs. I know people that swear on iPhone and that bought it just for the sake of not having to set up device (extremely lazy people). These people would rather pay double the price of something, just so they don't have to do anything.

I like my iPhone & iPad, but they are really locked up which is the strength & weakness of the system - The interface on my iPhone stays pretty much the same, I don't use Apple because I'm lazy i just like the system for phones - I don't use Apple for PC's & lappys, the resale value of an iPhone is still pretty good & later this year I will update my 13 to the range before the latest therefore I can have a decent phone at a fair price - Horses for courses? I will never have another Android phone again, mainly because I've used them in the past.

And that's ok! It's not like you can easily move to Android either way. My brother switched from Android to iPhone and half of the apps he couldn't move. If he was to move again to Android, practically mission impossible.

I could never own a single Apple device. It's not the cost things (I could afford them no problem). My issue with Apple... I don't like closed down and restricted systems and apps. I also hate Apple's business practices with passion; such as straight up lying and making devices irreparable. If I spend a lot of money on something, I expect to own the device and have total control over it; if you don't have that you're just renting the device.

Though I admit. When I was buying a new laptop, Macbooks caught my eye. It is one of the best laptops out there (due to ARM). However, after seeing that there's no way to repair this device in case it breaks... I immediately gave up on it and instead went with Lenovo Legion. To think I'd spend over 1.500€ on a device with just 2 year warranty and possibility of having to buy a new one if breaks after warranty period; this is just crazy to me...

he text suggests that Apple users should consider third-party security apps. However, since such apps can do very little on iOS, I'm not sure it's worth it — for example, the Malwarebytes app is basically just an expensive VPN. On top of that, I don't know how well it works for English-speaking users, but in Polish, features like call or SMS spam blocking are useless.

I bought my wife a Mac Air over 2 years ago because she has the ability to really mess computers big time+ up (sorry M) & its been faultless, she has yet been able to cause any grief with it, I didn't get it from Apple & I think I paid around under £800 UK Pounds for it, best thing I ever ever bought her, she also has a Windows lappy though half the price she hardly uses. I don't like using it though & prefer Windows by far? They restricted app system works well with my wife :p:p:p

You spent 800£ for a locked down Macbook, while you could have spent 0£ by just limiting what your wife can do with Windows or by installing Linux? Isn't that the perfect example of forth paragraph in my first post? 😅

Windows is open OS and you can do anything you want with it. As such it gives you amazing ability to customize it and lock it down to your needs. Linux is exactly the same except it doesn't need locking down.

I've been hearing how wonderful & how more / most /everyone will use Linux for well in excess of 25 years, it hasn't happened yet, & I don't see it happening - I've used it extensively & most servers use it - In my wife's case she is a manager for an aspect of the NHS & uses Office 365 every day of her life & on her work Dell Laptop & her Mac Air, its part of her career - Believe it or not?? I'm aware of the differences & advantages of most operating systems mainly because I've used them all :p:p:p:p
