Yes the second log only pops up during the first scan unless I tell OTL to make the second log.

Give me a second to look over your log now

Judging from your logs, if you are no longer experiencing any other issues, your PC is clean!

Double click on OTL to run it
  • Click on the Cleanup button at the top.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. Choose Yes
  • This will remove itself and other tools we may have used.

You can manually delete adwCleaner and RogueKiller if they aren't deleted.

If you wish to use a different antivirus, I have made some suggestions below. You can remove AVG with this.

Now that your PC is clean, I recommend you to create a new System Restore point then purge the old ones after.

For XP
How to create a Restore Point in XP
Delete all restore points except the most recent one

For Vista
Create a restore point
Delete all but the most recent restore point

For Windows 7
Create a restore point
Delete all but the most recent restore point - Click the Delete all but the most recent restore point link

Keep your system updated
  • Keeping your programs (especially Adobe and Java products) updated is essential. Update Checker will notify you if any of your programs require an update.
  • Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office product bugs and vulnerabilities.
  • Please ensure you update your system regularly and have automatic updates on. You can learn how to turn Automatic Updates on here

I also recommend you to switch your antivirus program to a better one. Here are some suggestions:

In addition to your antivirus, you need additional protection such as a firewall and behavioural blocker.

Here are only a few suggestions that will improve your system security. Should you wish to allow us to make full recommendations and set your PC up with maximum security, please start a thread here. Our community of PC enthusiasts and experts will give you feedback and help you secure your system from future malware infections.

Internet Explorer may be the most popular browser but it's definitely not the most secure browser. Consider using other browsers with addition add-ons to safeguard your system while browsing the internet.

Firefox is a more secure, faster browser than Internet Explorer. Firefox contains less vulnerabilities, reducing the risk of drive-by downloads. In addition, you can add the following add-ons to increase security.
  • KeyScramber - Encrypts your keystrokes to protect you against keyloggers that steals personal & banking information
  • AdBlock - Disable/blocks advertisements on websites so you won't accidentally click on a malicious ad.
  • NoScript - Disables Flash & Java contents to avoid exploits or drive-by attacks
  • Web of Trust - Shows the website rating by other users and blocks dangerous and poor-rated sites

Google Chrome is another good browser that is faster and more secure than Internet Explorer by having a sandbox feature. Additionally, you can add the following add-on to Chrome to heighten security.

Lastly, it is important to perform system maintenance on a regular basis. Here are a few tools and on-demand scanners that you should keep & use every 1-2 weeks to keep your system healthy.

Other than that, stay safe out there! If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to ask :)

Thank you very much for your help! Once this last scan is done, I am going to bed. If there are still any problems, well, I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow! Again, thank you very much for your help!

Rebooted and all seems well so far. One last question...

I know you probably can't accept a donation but does this site accept paypal donations? I really do appreciate the effort that you put forth in helping me.

I will be signing off for now but will check back tomorrow evening for your reply.

Thanks again!!!!

Hello again!

Yes, I know this is a free help site but you were very patient and took the time to walk me through this process. My other 2 choices were to take me pc somewhere to have it cleaned and have them hose it, or do a complete reinstall myself which I was pretty much going to do. You gave me a different option. I know whatever donation I make really wouldn't be enough to really cover your time but it is something.

A few follow up questions...

I downloaded MS security essentials (anti-virus), pc tools (firewall), uninstalled all my other anti-spyware tools EXCEPT malwarebytes (which I own the pro version), the update checker, and cc cleaner. Uninstalled avg, installed MSSE, then all of the others.

I still have the adwcleaner on my desktop, is there an uninstall for that or should I leave that there?

2nd. I usually have firefox, opera, chrome, and seamonkey browsers open checking various gmail accounts and doing other things. I was signed onto a number of accounts when that problem occurred. I was able to sign out of them before anything was done to them but do you think it would be wise to change all of my passwords on everything? I did change my amazon/bank/paypal passwords while at work today. Oh, should I change my windows log on password as well?

I think that's it for now. I am currently running scans with the new software on my pc now to double check and make sure everything is clean. Once I see your answer, then I will feel better about logging onto my bank and paypal sites to make a donation.

Thanks again!
Charles

Hi,

For adwCleaner, there is an uninstall button when you start it. You can click that to delete the files it removed.

I adwise you to change your passwords for everything, just to be safe. There is no way of telling what the virus was doing on your PC or if it was stealing information so you made the right choice to change your passwords.

Your window's password is fine, you won't have to change that unless that password is used elsewhere (email, bank, etc)

You can run a few more scans to double check. If they find anything, just let me know :)

Glad I was help to you :) Since I offer my service for free, any amount of donation is greatly appreciated.

Also, if you install keyscramber, you won't have to worry about having your information stolen when you are using firebox and Internet Explorer as it encrypts all your keystrokes. The hacker will see nothing but gibberish on his side :D

Hello again Fiery!

If you are online, please drop me a note here. I have a couple of questions.

1. After running the scans the other day, microsoft security essentials found another virus but it was quarantined. I just let MSE repair what it needed to do and it seemed to be fine. I don't know if that was a new virus or remnants of an old one. I did run MSE & Malwarebytes again and nothing was found (have been running both programs almost none stop). Do you think I may be virus free?

2. Noticed 2 other problems possibly.

1st. I am UNABLE to get windows defender to open. I've even tried in safe mode but defender just does not open. It used to but not any longer. Do you know if MSE disables defender somehow or is defender part of MSE now?

2nd. I have been unable to find an answer on Malwarebytes site and forum and I don't want to set up another account there to ask this question and it seems like you guys here on this forum really do trust Malwarebytes. Anyway, I did buy the pro version of it awhile back so the "Protection" tab on mine is something that I can use. There is a large button there that is always green and it says "Protection Enabled". When I first had this system progressive protection virus, that same button was red and showed "Protection disabled". While we were trying to fix the problem, at times that button was orange and showed "Protection partially enabled". NOW the question I have is this: Today, after updating malwarebytes, I went into the Protection tab and it once again was orange and showed "Protection partially enabled" and after a few seconds it had changed back to green. Is this a normal way that Malwarebytes should act while it updates itself or do I really still have a virus problem?

3rd. Even though I have been running MSE and Malwarebytes continuously without finding any problems, is there a way that we can check once again somehow just to make sure my system is clean?

Yes, I know your services are free, but I still want to show my appreciation somehow. I am in the process of right now of getting ready to go to the link that you gave me to make a donation. My paypal account is set up with my cwr.on.ebay@gmail id.

Thanks!
Charles

Oh! You mentioned a key scrambler! Do you have a certain that you like using? Does it also work in Seamonkey & the Opera browsers?
