Hello Windows Insiders, today we are beginning to roll out an update to Notepad to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels on Windows 11.

Notepad (version 11.2504.50.0)

[caption id="attachment_177924" align="alignnone" width="1063"]Notepad window open showing formatted content. Notepad window open showing formatted content.[/caption] With this update, we are introducing lightweight formatting in Notepad, providing additional flexibility in how you structure content across your files. The experience supports Markdown style input and files for users who prefer to work directly with the lightweight markup language. To get started, use the new formatting toolbar to apply formatting as you type or to selected text, including bold and italic styling, hyperlinks, and support for simple lists and headings. If at any point you want to return to plain text, you can clear all formatting from the formatting toolbar or from the edit menu. You can switch between formatted Markdown and Markdown syntax views in the view menu or by selecting the toggle button in the status bar at the bottom of the window. If you prefer, you can disable support for formatting entirely in app settings. FEEDBACK: Please share your feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Notepad. As always, we love getting feedback from the community and we will be looking out for your thoughts and suggestions on this update! Thanks, Dave Grochocki, Principal Group Product Manager – Windows Inbox Apps

I never understood why Windows came with two different apps for writing text when you could have everything in one.
I suspect MS removed Wordpad with its limited, yet sufficient for a big category, editorial tools to push users towards Office suite, but they gained nothing more than a backlash and might be higher frequency of pirating Office 🙂🙃

I doubt because Microsoft already offers basic and web version of Office for free. They even bundle free Office app with Windows.

They probably realized no point in having two apps with similar functionality when they can make one with functionality combined. This is why they're adding formatting options into Notepad.

But, do you need to sign up and create an account? At least with Wordpad at one time and now Notepad come by default with Windows.

Unfortunately, yes. Though I imagine most people have Microsoft account, either back from the Hotmail days or because of new Windows installation requirements.

MS blocked a couple of outlook mail accounts recently created to use online Office; after surfing Reddit, found many others with the same complain.
Tried online Office using my current Outlook accout; too slow and buggy, nothing unusual for MS.
I have OnlyOffice free; a good alternative but lacks features and almost freezes when dealing with large docx files.

It is why I'm moving completely to Proton Mail currently instead of Outlook, thanks it has the aliasing feature too (the only good feature in Outlook over Gmail).
I own email accounts by Outlook, Gmail, Yandex mail, Proton mail, and Zoho mail, in case one provider has issues.
The most fluent are Gmail and Zoho mail.

I'm always wanted to try Zoho services because I hear good things about it, but didn't use it yet.
Zoho account was created just few days ago, after facing troubles with Outlook mail.
I was reluctant at the beginning because of being Chinese in origin, but I think it is fast and nice looking; the only cons is not offering recovery methods.

Stop complaining dude! I got banned from Instagram immediately after creating account. They even dared to asked me for my ID, selfie, video and whatnot.🤣

I have this error with accounts that 10 years old, I searched the internet and too many users have it, the only explanation is that it is a region restricted error.
The only working solution I found on YouTube is to continue trying to log in until it success, user in US and EU doesn't face this error.
This is weird. I'm in the EU and don't have any issues whatsoever. Where are you from?

I tend to stick with popular e-mail services because I found that those smaller ones don't work well with the popular ones. I tried Zoho long time ago, Yandex, GMX too and I remember they couldn't send e-mails to Gmail and Outlook, or if mail succeeded it arrived very late (after few hours) which is unacceptable to me. Don't know what happened because none returned an error message.

That thought me only to use popular services everyone uses to avoid problems in the future.

To clarify, Zoho is Indian, not Chinese.

Yes, I said US and EU have no issues, I'm in Jordan.
