I would not trust a free privacy email just like I would not trust a free VPN. 🇩🇪🇪🇺

Proton keeps asking if I want to allow desktop notifications, so far, I've denied it. Is that better for security's sake, compared to convince, in keeping that option disabled?
It is up to you to disable it or enable it, it is just to notify about new email.

My main email address is Hotmail first dot surname @live.com I know it's not the most privacy friendly, I also use Fastmail for a number of my custom domains, privacy wise going to be better than Microsoft but not going to be anything like proton 😃.

Gmail, simply because it's what I first started with and knew. I also have a Proton email account as a secondary account. I like this guy, and think he's no nonsense and agree with using my Proton account for my banking login in.

THIS.

To be secure on the internet, you need to have double identity. What I mean by that? You need at least two e-mail addresses, separate or virtual phone number, and separate bank card for online payments.

I myself have many e-mail addresses. Outlook.com is my personal and the most important e-mail address; this is why it has four pseudonyms.
  • first one is used for communication with companies (like bank, web shops, etc.)
  • second one is used for registration on trusted sites
  • third one is used for personal communication with friends and acquaintances
  • forth one is used only for signing in, never registered anywhere
I also use Gmail and that's for registering on sites that I don't find trustworthy and could get me massive amount of spam.

Same goes for phone. I don't usually shop online, but if I do, I only give my real phone number to verified and trustworthy web shops. AliExpress, Temu and other sketchy web shops I order through the people I know. As a family we also bought a prepaid AirCash Mastercard which we all use if we want to buy something online, but paying at delivery isn't an option.

As a bonus; all my important accounts have 2FA. Two most important ones have phone number + 2FA app; somewhat less important have only 2FA set through the app. My phone has a PIN and SIM card is also locked with PIN, so even if I lose my phone or someone steals it, thief won't be able to do anything with it and certainly won't be able to access my online accounts.

Because of these methods, even though I found one of the pseudonyms on HaveIBeenPwned, I never been hacked or got any of my accounts/data stolen.

Not heard of Mail before, quick look at their site seem to market it self as privacy friendly, pricing seems respectable enough hosted in France different from a number of the other non proton EU based privacy friendly mail provider hosted in Germany.

I use Proton for everything, minus a Gmail account I use for my Apple account.
For websites I know they will send spam or advertising emails, I use SimpleLogin (Powered by Proton).
SimpleLogin protects your real-world email addresses using custom, random, and on-the-fly disposable addresses. Feature-wise, it outstrips most of the competition.
