Tens of thousands of Australians have had their medical histories and other private information exposed in a large data breach of a company that enabled them to participate in paid clinical trials.

The database belonging to Neoclinical exposed approximately 37,000 people's contact information and their responses to personal medical questions qualifying them for clinical trials, which included information about diagnoses, illicit drug use and treatments.

Vendors with PII (Personally Identifiable Information) must be penalized for negligence.

Unless companies pay, people get fired.... the protection of our information will never get the resources needed to fully protect us.

There are some countries now instituting laws like this.... just not enough.

Thanks @Correlate.

Of course, laws must be in place to regulate companies and protect users
But I think protection is not easy.

I think that's a large part of the issue. Everytime something happens, no one is ever really held accountable. It's always like "sorry our bad, here's $1.00 for your troubles."

The sad part in all of this, some countries try to regulate various sectors for this and that, usually because they are being greedy and taking advantage of customers. Not long after they all cry, stating that regulations are hurting business and they cannot compete. Ya that's a laugh, how about treating customers properly and fairly then you wont have these regulations.
