Serious Discussion Trend Micro AI Protection - latest version

Just checking for those who have Asus Routers, what TM AI are you running right now.
Mine is on 2.476 which was last updated on Sept 23,2025. No TM updates for last month and I'm running on the latest firmware which was released last week.
I don't have an Asus router in my setup (I'm more of a software tinkerer than hardware owner), but I've kept up with a lot of discussions on AiProtection (assuming that's the TM AI you're referring to—Trend Micro's security suite built into Asus routers).

From what I've seen in recent threads and Asus changelogs, version 2.476 does seem to be the latest for many models as of late September 2025. It's odd there hasn't been a TM update in over a month, especially with fresh firmware dropping. Could be they're syncing bigger changes for the next release—Asus has been pretty consistent with pushing AiProtection updates quarterly or so, but delays happen.

If you're on the latest firmware and everything's stable, I'd say you're good unless you're noticing any specific issues like false positives or connectivity hiccups. Anyone else here on Asus gear? What's your TM AI version looking like?

I am also on 2.476.

From what I see, not all rules are added to the Asus version of intrusion prevention, but only relevant rules. Trend Micro uses Endpoint Relevance Rules Pattern to control that.

So it could be that there is nothing relevant.
I see. The reason I asked here is that my AX router is almost EOL with Asus but still they release new firmware. Not sure why but the old AC routers I owned are not yet EOL thou.

I thought I was left out by Asus. Hehe
Glad that wasn't the case.

I don’t think there is EOL for the intrusion prevention updates.

Ya. It's like its free TM AI lifetime updates for the life of the router. Could be multiple meanings from Asus.
It could mean that as long as the router is running,it can update. Or updates are free as long as the support life of the router is officially supported by Asus.

I would assume updates never really end as they involve only the signature pack, which is also the same for all routers from Asus. So the update doesn’t really cost Asus extra.
I don’t see any reason why they should end the updates, it’s not like AiProtection EOL will drive someone to buying a new router so the marketing team won’t benefit either.

Yes Firmware updates are not tied up to TM AI. I'm just trying to hold on to my AX router and will eventually upgrade once Wifi7 becomes mainstream.

As long as I get Firmware and TM updates, I'll be fine until I feel that "upgrade itch".

When buying wifi 7 router, watch out and make sure it is quad-band, there are many w7 routers at the moment that are tri or even dual band. Not sure what’s the point of these.

Have you upgraded your Asus or still in AX?
Maybe the Asus ones get Quad Band, then the hardware becomes Octa-Core and 1GB RAM at least.hehe

Asus should ditch the tri-core and the 256MB RAM specs.

I am using wi-fi 6E router, the AXE 7800 and quite happy with it. In the next 5-6 years I doubt I will be buying a router.

I am more interested when my ISP, namely Virgin Media will upgrade me to XSG-PON so I can get symmetrical speeds finally. Apparently they are running a very ambitious project that should complete by 2028…

What's the typical speed now there in UK? I remember 50-100mbps were a norm around 2010-15s. And Asym on that speed.
Fibre to cabinet on OpenReach (which is in every house) is 72 mbps download, ~12 upload.
Full fibre on OpenReach (rolling out at the moment) is up to 1600 mbps download, 112 upload. This is available where I live.

On Virgin Media, the old infrastructure goes up to a gigabit (1120 mbps download roughly), for upload it’s around 106.

There are some new providers like Community Fibre, entirely full fibre, these offer up to 5-6 GBPS symmetrical speeds but they are not in my area. I spoke to them a few times, they gave me different timeframes when they will be around.

72/12- maybe this the new dialup on this age.

I usually check my realtime DL/UL on the Asus GUI/APP and I never fully utilize my ISP speed. I learned to go for the bang for buck instead of the fastest and greatest.

UK - I'm on 900+ down 110 up on BT Openreach PON with PlusNet, dumped Virgin Media last April when they wanted to charge me an arm & a leg (both legs actually) I don't know any in my area using the old Infinity or the older ADSL all are now on FTTP. Before that used Virgin for years with gig down 110 up, what is needed as Trident says is symmetrical, I imagine its in the pipeline for all if the will is there, most users have no idea what they are using, that is the issue?

How effective really is their TM AI protect (Asus router version)?

Anyone running Skynet on Asus? opinion?

It’s ok but it’s not gonna wow you.

The IPS has been confirmed by Asus and Trend to not support HTTPS.
It will only block intrusions between devices and http traffic.

It also blocks malicious websites but there is no aggressive mode and it obviously due to the lack of https snooping and rendering can’t apply heuristics.

You can easily combine AI Protection with a DNS-based solution to further block ads, newly registered domains and so on.
