Tried to follow "Remove Random audio ads in background" guide, but...

Done. One more thing, although I don't know if it is relevant. I keep getting a pop-up from Norton saying that mutechrome.dll is safe. I thought it seemed suspicious since I don't recall seeing anything like that until I started getting these random audio ads. So, I uninstalled google chrome through my control panel. Now, even without google chrome, I keep getting these pop-up alerts from Norton saying that high-disk usage is occurring from google chrome. When I click on the link that says "details and settings", it allows me to click to locate chrome.exe, but I don't think it is an indexed area of my computer. It obviously didn't delete when I uninstalled google chrome, so I am wondering if the problem with the audio ads lies in there. Is there a way to safely remove things that are not indexed? I just don't want to mess things up further. Hope my question makes sense.

Download attached fixlist.txt on the same location as FRST (otherwise the fix won't work)
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to the operating system

Open FRST, and click Fix. Attach me that report after it is finished.

Please download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp
files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute
or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Tell me how is the situation now?

OK, here's the FRST fix's log. I'll get on TFC now and let you know how that goes.

So, it has been a couple of hours, and I have NOT heard any ads yet! WOOT!!! :) ;) :D I am hopeful that I won't be hearing any more ads. I'll give it a few more hours before I let myself really believe that its all gone. Either way, THANK YOU TwinHeadedEagle! I know it was a pain helping me with this issue, but I really appreciate that you stuck with me through it. One last thing... a couple of icons labeled desktop.ini appeared on my desktop after I ran TFC. Are those safe enough to delete? Oh, and do I go ahead and remove all those programs you told me to download? I will be hitting that donate button shortly!

Looks like they're gone from the desktop :) Is it safe to remove all the programs now (FRST, MBAR, MBAM, TFC, etc.)? I am assuming it is best to hang on to the logs in a folder, but let me know if I should get rid of those also.

Yes, we will remove it now. Your PC is now clean.

I can recommend you this software to avoid Adware in the future:

http://unchecky.com/

Read here how it works --> http://www.howtogeek.com/179758/how-to-avoid-junkware-offers-with-unchecky/

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

=> Please download DelFix by Xplode to your Desktop.

Run the tool and check the following boxes below;
checkmark.png
Remove disinfection tools
checkmark.png
Create registry backup
checkmark.png
Purge System Restore

Click Run button and wait a few seconds for the programme completes his work.
At this point all the tools we used here should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.
