London (CNN) -- The past week in London has been like living in a disaster movie. "Escape from Peckham" would have been an apt title on Monday as we broadcast live from the center of the riots, which saw gangs of several hundred young men and women looting shops, terrorizing by-standers and mugging news crews.

Amazon UK's riot gear sales soar: Aluminum bats up 6,000%

Aluminum bats, police nightsticks and other weapons dominated the "movers and shakers" list of hot-selling items in Amazon.uk's Sports shop on Tuesday as riots spread across Britain for the third day.

British newspaper The Guardian flagged the Amazon sales spike in its running live-blog on the rioting. The outbreak of violence began in London's Tottenham neighborhood after police fatally shot a local 29-year-old man, Mark Duggan, on August 4. Riots and looting soon spread to other British towns, and the government called in police forces

This is too bad buildings were burned, people are free on stealing any stores. From starting time of a riot police didn't prevent immediately.

We in the usa are worried this could also spread here as well. I think we will end up over throwing our government. might makes things worse or make them better we will see.

The problem in USA is your gun free amendment, it is scary to imagine in some states the guy sitting near your table has a beretta 9mm... what about the old school punch in the face ^^

I actually live quite near a riot area, and luckily there wasn't any here. The news was all over it, and the devastation was massive. Thank God I wasn't in the middle of it.

We have seen this before. It happened after the Rodney King beating.

If this type of unrest breaks out over here in the USA, there will be a lot of dead bodies in the streets. Many people have conceal and carry permits. Many criminals conceal and carry whether they have a permit or not. I, and all of my neighbors, are heavily armed. Many areas are heavily armed these days. People have been buying lots of assault rifles and ammo over here since the new administration got elected, since many have thought that they were going to outlaw assault rifles.

If you break into a house or business in the United States while the owners are inside, you stand a great chance of not coming back out alive, esp. in Texas. Robbers broke inside a mans home in Texas a few years ago. After they got what they wanted and were fleeing, a neighbor of the house being robbed shot them in the back while they were running through his neighbor's yard. It killed both of them. The jury was unanimous in their decision to not punish the home owner that shot and killed the robbers, even though they were not in his house or on his property at the time that he shot them.

Guns are useful. Just ask a someone from Switzerland. That is how they kept the Nazis out of there.

Switzerland was neutral during the conflict, little to do with their military power but more with the consensus betweens neighbor countries, their economical relation and history with germany, their army was professionnal but not strong enough to resist the german force. a swiss clolnel said the nazis can reach their capital just with one tank regiment^^

Hi ZOU, it is true that the Swiss were loaded with guns. Everybody had
a gun in Switzerland before the war but the reasons why the Nazis did
not invade is something else.
Cooperation is the reason why the Nazis did not invade. The Swiss
acted more like an ally to Germany than a neutral country. That really
is the truth about the Swiss, Nazis and their relationship. IMO.

Late during the war, the US threatened the Swiss with invasion, if
the cooperation was not put to an end. An American invasion of
Switzerland was more probable than one by Germany taking place.

And not to mention that Switzerland had an allowed nazi political party at that time. they were smart and made the right arrangement with each side.
