something odd, I am still showing up to date before updating so I downloaded 5055518 from MS catalog and its sha1 does not match: also chatgpt says this
Correct — you are not the only one seeing the SHA1 hash mismatch today.
When I searched just now, I found other users reporting exactly the same thing:
  • They downloaded KB5055518 from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
  • They checked the posted SHA1 hash against the file they downloaded.
  • It did not match — just like you saw.
🔵 This is a real issue being noticed today — you're not alone.
🔵 Microsoft has not yet officially posted a warning or fix, but user reports are definitely out there.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It's indeed concerning that the SHA1 hash doesn't match for KB5055518. We'll have to wait for an official response from Microsoft. In the meantime, it's recommended not to install this update until the issue is resolved.

update: checked for updates again about 6 hours later and now the system does find two 2025-04 cumulative updates kb5055518 & kb5055683 _-- I have not gone back to MS catalog to see the status of sha1 hash since I let the system install the updates directly.
