Poll - [Updated 23/3/18] Browser extension comparison: Malwares and Phishings

Browser: Google Chrome 65 x64
Malware and phishing links: 10 malc0de, 10 vxvault, 10 openphish, 10 verified phishtank, 10 unverified phishtank
Total: 50 links
Extensions: recently downloaded from Chrome Web Store
- Google Safe Browsing (built-in chrome's protection)
- AdGuard AdBlocker: default settings, uses Google Safe Browsing (delayed) and their own database
- Avira browser safety: default settings
- Norton Safe Web: default settings
- Bitdefender Trafficlight: default settings, it rarely blocks any malware links, just old ones
- Avast Online Security: default settings, only has phishing protection, expected to score 0 against malwares
- Netcraft Extension: default settings, only has phishing protection, expected to score 0 against malwares
- uBlock Origin with some additional filters

NOTE: the result can vary from day-to-day. Tomorrow with different links, the result can be very different. All are live links but they can be dead a few minutes after the test. No duplication

Results:

that worked, thanks, couldn't find that, why would symantec hide it..
maybe norton safe web is only available for paid norton users and it will be installed automatically when norton is installed

@mekelek this test is for you
Yandex browser beta 18.3.1: default settings + enabled phishing protection
malco0de: 10/10
vxvault: 6/10
openshish: 0/10
phishtank verified: 0/10
phishtank unverified: 0/10
-> total: 16/50
it seems yandex's phishing protection never works. My last test had the same result. it's malware protection is also inferior to chrome's in my last test

I really don't rely on Yandex alone hence I'm using both Avira's and Norton's extensions, plus uBlock Origin. It's just a feature packed convenient browser to me.
thanks for this tho :)

Yandex's phishing protection does not block phishing links (there can be generated new ones within seconds anyway), it blocks phishing attempts.

I do not use it though, since password hashes can be stolen and used, Yandex had actually vulnerabilities like this.

try to go on a porn site, Yandex is scary
"would you like to open this site in incognito mode?"

try to go on a porn site, Yandex is scary
"would you like to open this site in incognito mode?"

Install Yandex, surf porn, have yandex ask if you want Incognito to look at it.
Plug in a PHONE to your computer, Yandex pops up and says 'Bro, you need Yandex browser on your phone!"
Go to a financial site, Yandex says 'Want to protect this banking site?'
Login to your banking site, Yandex says 'Bro, send me some cash, you got plenty!!'.

The last part was a lie, but the rest was true, and it's very very creepy.. Yandex is doing things.

I think Firefox is using Google Safebrowing too. I wonder how well Edge would do with Smartscreen. I absolutely love Norton DNS but it resolves my web searches in the wrong way. When I type a word into Chrome's omnibar I get prompted whether I want to search for "Hello" or resolve "http://hello" or something like that. That was a big dealbreaker. If anyone knows a way around it, I would be thankful.
