RE: grimreaper1014 config

Thanks for the tips on Kaspersky Stranger and Malbky. I will defiantly apply those tweaks!

RE: grimreaper1014 config

Well I decided to get rid of Avast and install Webroot SecureAnywhere. I heard it is really light on resources, and offer decent protection as well. I have also seen it installed by some other users here on the forums. I do have a few questions. Should I tweak any of the settings to get more security? Also, should I put Avast or another AV back on my PC and run Webroot as a companion? Is there any other changes I should make anywhere?

RE: *updated grimreaper1014 config

Ok I went through a few different configurations. I was trying to find what I liked the most. Basically what I am looking for is a really light responsive system for gaming. I went through all the free firewalls and did not find any that I really like. I like Comodo Firewall but only when it is used in conjunction with Comodo anti-virus. Therefore, I decided to buy a license of Outpost Firewall Pro for $9.95 for a year. I currently have it installed without the web fliter or malware/spyware component. I left those out because I do not want any conflicts with other components. I am now looking for a very light effective antivirus to go along with this setup. Are there any other light AV's out there besides Webroot SecureAnywhere and Panda Cloud? What are some of the lightest most effective AV's that are not strictly cloud based?

If it is Online Gaming you are referring to, then you have the following options:
Free (by order):
CAV (With or without Firewall)
AVG (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall)
FortiClient Lite (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall)
MSE (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall)
avast! (Debatable depending on the system) (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall).

Paid:
ESET Antivirus (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall)/ESET Smart Security
Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7 (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall)
Norton Antivirus 2013 (with windows 7 firewall or Tinywall)/Norton Internet Security

If it is offline gaming, you can use any RT protection since it will not really affect your Performance and FPS.

Regardless of Online or Offline gaming, one thing I always do (which I could never do with Webroot SecureAnywhere): Always exclude the folder of the game installed from being scanned.

Avast is quite light, ESET NOD32 is good for gamers, not saying MSE.

Gamer + low risk of infection: MSE can get by :)

Majority of Gamers and Hardcore Gamers hardly browse etc (unless we are talking about pirated copies of offline games and that is another story but even so MSE would detect it anyway).

Avast is light but I still see it lighter on my other laptop than this gaming one for reasons stated on another thread so that is why i used the term debatable :)

True, the time you use for browsing is time you loose for leveling :D

Thanks for the reply guys. I greatly appreciate it. Do you guys know of any 6 month + trials for ESET or Emsisoft? I always run my browser sandboxed by Sandboxie. I also do not download any suspicious software, torrents, or P2P or any sort. Do you think I could get away with just always running my browser sandboxed when I use it? I do have a key for Emsisoft anti-malware but I can't remember when I got it. I would like to find a extra trial key for it or ESET just in case.

Thanks Umbra. I'm installing Emsisoft Anti-Malware now. Wow which turned out to be a full 1 year key I never activated! Once it runs out I will more than likely just roll with Sandboxie. I wonder if there are any changes I should make to Emsisoft or Outpost Firewall Pro besides doing the exclusions in each program?

what i like with Emsisoft is that their products don't need to be tweaked to be efficient. You can let EAM by default, it protects well enough.

if you want less resources usage , adjust the File Guard to "scan when executed"

if you want the BB to be at max, adjust the Alert Setting to "paranoid"

Awesome thanks a lot. I appreciate your suggestions. In Outpost firewall the only thing I would need to do is make sure Emsisoft processes are set to "Allow All" in the firewall right since I didn't install the spyware/mallware scanner part of Outpost? I am guessing since the scanner portion wasn't installed there will not be a place for exceptions?

yes and on EAM set the running processes of OPF in the exclusions (application rules & whitelist)

Well, I won a copy out Online Armor Pro and I removed Outpost Firewall Pro since I hadn't put in the serial yet to activate it. Therefore, I am running basically Emsisoft Internet Security Suite. It seams a little noisy but I think I am answering everything correctly. Hopefully it will start to quite down once I have opened all my programs for the first time. If anyone with more experience with this suite knows any settings I should adjust I would greatly appreciate it.
