And the only way to stop Avast and AVG from forcing that thing is by disabling web shield which is not a good idea, right? I do not want Avast to tamper with my browser. There are many better options available now, so I do not have to worry.

No, you can just disable the enterprise policy. I also think (because I am not on a PC using AVG atm) that you can disable all this entirely by disabling the option to scan QUIC protocol in the web shield settings. If someone is using AVG, give it a try - disabling QUIC scanning should mean the AV will disable all of that policy enforcement upon the next restart.

The first time you launch the browser it will open the page of their extension on Microsoft Store (Edge)

And firefox, and chrome, and opera....etc.

And on some browsers it will open a page twice - once for Online Security extension, and again for SafePrice. I do not know why, because I believe SafePrice is now deprecated.

This just got to a point when some people are just repeating what they read that someone said somewhere.

I repeat that all of this stuff happens. Less so in version 20.2 onwards, they did tone down the intrusiveness. But now there are a lot of bugs, especially related to the email signature, and how the modules are configured. In AVG the ini files are not having configuration strings for all options upon installation, some things actually only appear in ini files when you disable and enable some options. This causes some funny race conditions. AVG has the sandbox present and enabled in the ini files but no option in the GUI, for example. There's a lot of bugs they really need to work around IMHO.

That's only for the Internet Security, right? Last week I installed AVG Free on my old laptop and it didn't do anything to my browsers.

I'm using Avast on my rig and also nothing, running smoothly.
I've used Kaspersky and WD for years. Now I've seen many reviews and tests, until I see a better free AV than Avast, I will keep saying their the best option.
People can keep crying about data and browser issues that don't exist... No one cares, not the millions and millions of users using them 🤣

This setting should be in settings ---> Basic Protection ---> Web Shield. I think since the free version has web shield, it should have this setting.

I converted to AVG Paid during the AVG 7.0 days and since then I have never used the free version, so I am sorry that I am unable to help you specifically regarding the free version.

Yes it has the Web Shield of course. The "web shield" is the main protection of every antivirus, it works where you are most at risk.

I don't need any help. I don't have any of the issues you guys described. And that's assuming that Avast taking control of some of your browsers settings is a bad thing, to call it an "issue".
- Ow no.. my antivirus is doing its jog... what a terrible product.

My only gripe with Avast is the constant niggling bugs. They fix some with a new version but they also introduce some. Those bugs, sometimes end up affecting the protection (like the ini inconsistency creating some conditions which cause a delay in response for certain shields). Although, these impacts are generally not major, it is aggravating to see that a 100% product becomes a 95% product only because of what I perceive as silly bugs.

In 2018 Avast/AVG had some very funny issues with certain (Acer) laptops where enabling the nested virtualization and deep scan options would cause the computer to not boot up. This may have to do with the BIOS/UEFI on those machines, but my question is why isn't Avast doing the QA it needs to do?

People can keep crying about data and browser issues that don't exist... No one cares, not the millions and millions of users using them

You do know Avast and AVG collectively lost a lot of customers due to the various issues and bugs after the merger? Upon merger, they had 400+ million and 4 years later it is around 435 million. That's very stagnant growth if taken on year-on-year basis. The bugs on the initial merger of technology has cost them a lot, even the jumpshot controversy created enough of a dent that Avast is mentioning it in their annual reports as an event of significance. Of course, they have a good product, and a good product speaks for itself, they will never be a pariah in the market. But they can do much better IMHO.

At the end of the day, very few AVs have privacy friendly operation - I guess I can count them on one hand. One needs to worry more about having good protection. But bugs, especially ones that prevent normal operation of a computer, are very costly.

Yes, that is the option which says QUIC/HTTP3. Disabling this should solve all of those niggles about "managed by your organization", and it will not impact the protection too much (except on sites hosted by Google, or some CloudFlare sites). This is a stop-gap solution, Avast is developing a proper full-fledged HTTP3/QUIC scanner which will not require such kind of browser policy enforcement. We should be seeing it in the second half of the year.

When I encounter my first bug I will PM you, you will be the first to know.
Other AVs don't have any bugs, I'm sure Avast is the only one.😇

Those niggles don't exist... I've already told you. I'm so said that I can't see such an interesting thing that some people can :ROFLMAO:
Maybe they change it in the last updates and it doesn't show it anymore.

BitDefender is one, with a lot of really silly bugs. I believe I also mentioned that many times on this forum.

I have it. Will post the screenshot once I get to the PC using AVG ("managed by your organization"). It doesn't bother me that much though.
And why should... It just means it's doing its job, let it. Some people will just moan about anything and everything. They don't understand that Avast don't care for their porn history.

I've installed both Avast and AVG recently and didn't have any of those problems you keep talking about... The message doesn't appear, they don't inject anything in your browsers. The first time you launch the browser it will open the page of their extension on Microsoft Store (Edge), you can then click install if you wish, that's it.
This just got to a point when some people are just repeating what they read that someone said somewhere.
It offers top quality protection. For paid there might be some options, but the only free option that can really compete with Avast is Kaspersky.

The extension is important for the phishing protection, it's weaker without it. It shows you the reputation of your search results and all the sites you enter. It can also block trackers if you want (not by default).

You mean like this? Video - BullGuard Internet Security 5.6.20
Do not worry I have used AVG for a very long time. Actually my sister likes it very much and I have always made use of its hardened mode, so believe me I have used it and have not copied what other said. I have concluded that Avast/AVG is not for me. If the problems I stated are no longer there, they might have been fixed.
Regarding Bullguard, I do like it but I do admit that it needs to improve. G Data, Eset, Emsisoft, and Bitdefender suit me well. I do not need to make comparisons. I just use what I like. I see that you like AVAST and I do agree with you that it provides decent protection but it, in its current state, is not for me.

Did not know that. It is great that they offer the option to disable QUIC scanning. I hope they improve and get back on track.
