BETA RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR VIPRE ANTIVIRUS 2012 AND VIPRE INTERNET SECURITY 2012

OVERVIEW

GFI Software is very pleased to announce the beta release of VIPRE Antivirus 2012 and VIPRE Internet Security 2012!

Our planned public release date is in late October, and we invite you to preview and test our betas today.


The following products are currently available for beta testing:

VIPRE ANTIVIRUS 2012
Version 5.0.5038 with installer version 5.0.1092

VIPRE INTERNET SECURITY 2012 (formally known as VIPRE Premium)
Version 5.0.5038 with installer version 5.0.1092


WHAT'S NEW

In addition to a number of "under-the hood”-improvements, the key changes for VIPRE Antivirus 2012 are focused on ease-of-usability, performance and stability.

The headline features for VIPRE Antivirus 2012 include the following:

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE USER INTERFACE
Enhancements are centered on ease-of-use and feature an updated look and feel. High-visibility buttons have been added for quick access to frequently accessed areas. Changes to the text have been made for clarity.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS
Improvements have been made to VIPRE Antivirus that focuses on stability and performance.

CUSTOM SCHEDULED SCANS
Users can now schedule a custom scan specifying certain scan options at specified times.

INSTALLATION MADE EASY
Installing VIPRE Antivirus can be done in as little as three clicks! Using a new installer technology, VIPRE Antivirus 2012 will be completely configured and ready to use after the installation has been completed.

SPAM FILTERING, POWERED BY CLOUDMARK®
VIPRE Internet Security now includes anti-spam support for POP3 accounts. When enabled, it will check incoming e-mail, determine whether it is spam, and then automatically flag the e-mail as spam.

FIREWALL ENHANCEMENTS
The enhanced firewall, only available in the VIPRE Internet Security, will now trust known good programs, while still blocking spyware, worms, key loggers, and trojans. The VIPRE Internet Security firewall will protect your computer against attacks and will alert you to suspicious events.

SUPPORT TOOLS
A customized version of TeamViewer™ is included for easy and direct access to GFI Technical Support. In addition, improvements to the other diagnostic tools have been made.

KNOWN BUGS AND LIMITATIONS

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES
The beta software is only available in English (United States). Italian and German will follow in a subsequent beta.

FIREWALL DRIVERS NOT SIGNED
The firewall drivers are currently not signed. You will need to choose the "Install this drive software anyway” option in order to proceed with the installation of VIPRE Internet Security. This issue will be resolved before the final release.

WINDOWS 2000 NOT SUPPORTED
Windows 2000 is no longer supported with VIPRE Antivirus 2012. Current users of VIPRE running on Windows 2000 will continue to receive threat definitions.

WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 REQUIRED
Users of Windows XP must have at least Service Pack 2 installed, preferably Service Pack 3.

SPAM FILTERING ISSUES
You may encounter issues with spam filtering not working, due to licensing issues. This will be resolved before final release.

i really can't make my mind up about VIPRE, do i like it or not? hmm ill test this in the vm! thanks for the links

The install process was very fast and I've got that alert ' FIREWALL DRIVERS NOT SIGNED .... :)
I don't feel any slowdowns on my system with VIPRE IS 2012 and the resource usage seems to be fair enough :

I've tested Vipre with 20 malicous links from MDL and malc0de and the webguard blocked them all ... then I've disabled the webguard and tried another 10 and they've all got blocked by the antivirus engine...Still wonder why GFI doesn't want to get tested by Av-Comp. and the other organizations...

Apart from the new look , I can't see any major update.....the HIPS is still disabled by default...I guess they aren't ready yet.
Didn't see any Firewall alerts yet so that's a major improvement.

@Tobi +1.....hopefully they'll sort all the problems and get tested ASAP........ while I really don't trust any test , getting tested and achieving good results will surely get them more customers.

rynesandbergfan23 , tested a few days ago Vipre Internet Security 2012 BETA , watch the video and then we can comment :

I will surely give it a try but only in a VM. I have never really tried VIPRE, so I think I will.

Interface is very slick just a few adjustment interface from the older version.

BUG FIXES IN THIS RELEASE

· Fixed a bug where the installation to a non-default directory would fail
· Registrations from the installer were not being transferred into VIPRE
· Updated graphics in the installer
· Corrected a bug where the Quarantined items cannot be restored or deleted after upgrading from 4.0 to 5.0
· Fixed miscellaneous typographical errors in VIPRE and the installer
· Corrected a bug where the Buy Now link stopped working after upgrading from 4.0 to 5.0
