Thank you for the tip but McAfee products really slow my system down.

McAfee WebAdvisor shouldn't slow down anything. Just a web blocker. It's quite good for blocking malicious websites and downloads. If we were talking about McAfee AV or IS, then yes, I'd agree. Never used it for Edge (because I never use Edge) though so can't say whether it works properly or not.

Is there anything I need to know because I have never used a DNS before?
See DNS is something that is ALWAYS there with the ISP..Without DNS your internet will not work!!
ISP maintained servers are mostly sluggish ,Poorly maintained and often has cache poisioning hijacks risks!!
so try Norton DNS it has inbuilt MALWARE and ANTI-PORN filters that doesn't need to be updated as its cloud like behaviour!!

Hope this info help u a lot
if u have any doubts regarding these info>> check this out!!

DNS is exactly what @Rishi explained here! Couldn't have said it better myself. :p

DNS is an excellent solution for website blocking, plus in most cases it has extra features.
Here are the top free DNS services which also provide malicious hostname blocking:
Norton ConnectSafe
Comodo Secure DNS
OpenDNS

If you do not want to use a DNS service with malware blocking features, then I would recommend something in the lines of Adguard, PeerBlock or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium for this task.
Will it change my router DNS or just for my device?

P.S: Sorry for asking so many questions.

I recommend you configure the DNS only specifically for your device (operating system), because, depending on the router, there might be some complications, which also depend on the DNS service used.
In other words, use something like DNS Jumper on the specific device (operating system installation) in which you want to use the secure DNS service (DNS Jumper allows for seamless and easy DNS service configuration).

Like @Kantry123 mentioned, configuring secure DNS on your router will indeed affect all devices connected to the router automatically, and as such there will be no need for manual configuration in every device.
However, when you configure the DNS service manually for every machine, you obviously have full control over which one of your devices is going to be using that DNS service.

Be aware that changing the DNS settings on your Router will affect every connected device, including Smart TVs, Game Consoles, iPads etc. To modify your router DNS settings, this must be done manually via your web browser and knowing your router login credentials.

See post above by @DracusNarcrym for a utility to change the settings for your current device.

Try uBlock with all filters enabled. A good companion browser extension would be WOT. I personally use this combination as my malicious website protection.

EDIT: I thought you meant Chrome xD. Sorry, my mistake.
