Both ftp credentials and Private keys are stored on a system and if they are not protected can be gathered by malware just like anything else. August and a modified Hawkeye credential stealer are really good.

However in the case of Piriform consider what was occurring at the company- it was going to be taken over by Avast, and I'm certain various employees were concerned about Downsizing (getting fired). So when you have a Blackhat group with limitless resources they can easily make a nervous employee a Offer They Can't Refuse ("How about 5 years salary for a little information").

Update: After i heard this news i check my cleaner version it is up-to-date. I download a infected file from @L S link. He is sharing with other members i download the particular file in my computer (Downloads). Bitdefender failed to detect this file from my system because "malware was signed using a valid digital certificate".

Under the right circumstances this could happen to any soft including your beloved AV and just think of the access it has to the system.

Though no need(yet) to run out the door and into the street with arms outstretched screaming"They`re here already" "They`re among us now" when the next update sorts it out.

A good ole kick in the pants is needed everynow and again to shake up things up a bit, I just hope the person who stumbled on it gets the full recognition for it.
