What I have to know about malware before start testing security software?

Windows Vista is still widely used, as well as now windows 7, but some of the others are correct, if you are testing a security product, use the least secure OS "Windows Xp", as at that point, you will be testing the product more and the OS less..

for testing: IE
for you: Firefox or Chrome
for security: Comodo Dragon (chromium-based)

the latest, because mostly all users will use it. and you will be up to date.

Well IE9 is better even its uses Smartscreen filter, some files will be detected and removed but others not since when a file detected no publisher it will prompt you if you want to run anyway.
