I think most of us that voted brain.exe meant in conjunction with a quality AV program not instead of, meaning it helps if you think before you click away. ;)

if you isolate/sandbox your vulnerable apps, you have exploit protection. There are several security solutions that incorporate this, to varying extents. ReHIPS is based on it, COMODO lets you do it if you want, and Voodooshield provides a certain degree of isolation for internet-facing apps.

Agree, that's why VoodooShield free with it's AI and use of VT ratings is the most underrated IMO :) Light and super-easy to use out of the box.

@AtlBo Zemana AntiLogger Free has been discontinued and no longer supported. I have removed it from the Poll choices.

A better poll would include categories of which Security fall under rather than personal choices - not to mention a wide range of software that cannot be listed in the Poll.

For example: Free Antivirus, Free Anti-Executable, Free Rollback, Free Sandboxing.

It does not have a firewall, cuz the 360 TS fails several penetration test and its IDS feature is almost useless and creates a redundant load to the system whereas the Chinese version is just AV protection.

As long as you have most software and OS fully updated. Be careful what you click on and download or run/install. I've found it quite hard to get infected.

Once had a friend who wanted me to check his PC for infection because it was running "Slow" had no AV installed and hadn't had one for over a year but was very cautious as to what he did online/offline.

Checked with everything in my arsenal and he had no infections.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I am a not adblocker believer. Can you please maybe PM of some "legit" sites that can give malvertising. I know a fair bit of security so I know to run this stuff in a VM. My personal opinion is that too many people are using adblockers and it's going to destroy the internet. Adblockers aren't a source of security more impatience of humans. I have used Avast for over 10+ years and haven't gotten infected once. As for the choice I would choose Avast or Voodoosheild. Voodoosheild hasn't gotten as much recognition as Avast has and it surprisingly can keep you infections free. I won't make it my main protection as I still have trouble believing its full effectiveness. Brain.exe can be a hit or miss like in real life younger people think they are invincible and it can make them think it also applies to the virtual world. Like some of the other posts keep everything up to date and have good tools can help you on you're way but then its not your brain alone it is the tools as well like an AV that can help you.

Disconnect.me has a filterlist namely Malvertising filter list by Disconnect‎
I remember that I ublock blocked me from accessing those websites included in that list around 2-3 times

not sure if they injected malvertising in the past but they are added to this list so it means something
the website itself is harmless but when we click on their ads we may access phishing or other websites which contain exploits or malwares

I have seen my fair share of sites like that. They may have malicious intent but you could easily avoid situations. For example, you want a download but there are many weird links to get you to the said thing. There could always be a more secure way to find what you are looking for OR it might not be even the best idea to go looking for said software in the first place. I don't mind software that prevents you from going to sites and to a little bit of extent could be possible to use an adblocker on sites like torrents and other not so good activites. I really am for none at all but most people are spamming adblockers on places like YT which some of the creators use it as an entertainment business. As well as donating to charity. Do you even have to click on the ads if those are the ones that could contain malware? Nope. Exit the browser or look a little closer on what is the "download" button.


Side note: Could anyone please link me on where on the forum I can have a discussion on these matters?

Windows itself is the most underrated security software (it is considered like "free" because you already have it).
1 smartscreen
2 user account control (set to high)
3 standard user account for regular use
4 two-way firewall
4 default Windows 10 apps that run in appcontainer
5 Windows Defender, which understands how Windows works, and runs at kernel level
