You could use both, because Emsisoft is one of those compatible anti-viruses. (Others: Webroot, Lavasoft AdAware, Kingsoft, Baidu).

Does KIS use the BitDefender engine as well, or is it just Emsisoft?

It certainly appears Kaspersky and BitDefender are each other's bitter rivals. In nearly all of the AV testing I see they are neck and neck, nos. 1 and 2.

Can you give me more details about Kaspersky usage on your machine (such as RAM, CPU, etc....)

I used 2011 version and 2014 and 2011 was very heavy ~280 MB on Windows XP. Anyway 2014 used ~80 MB and it was way lighter (Windows 7). Now i'm using Avast Internet Security and i'm satisfied.
