i am also thinking about try and learn linux, because after the end of WinXP, i may make Linux and Win7 dual boot, still trying some linux distro's, very little knowledge about linux though...

It's not exactly a necessity to have an AV on Linux, mostly because infections on that OS are usually pretty rare.
