Windows 10: a Chrome and Firefox tackle notification on battery consumption

Microsoft went to promote its Edge browser directly via a notification sent to Windows 10's users.

Last month, Microsoft released a video in which he had placed four identical PCs, each with a different browser. The idea was to compare the life cycle of the battery with Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge came first with 7:22 autonomy

This promotional campaign has not necessarily pleased to everyone, beginning with Opera Software that explained have done the same tests with very different results.

Now Microsoft has made another step and enables notifications targeting Chrome or Firefox's users directly within Windows 10. Look at the screenshot below published by Rudy Huyn (a Windows Phone app developer) and received as notification on its s laptop :D

Huyn received the prompt while using Chrome. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the prompts also happen for Firefox's users. They were first turned on in early July.

Certainly, Microsoft Edge's users are invited to download Chrome, when visiting Google.com, and some will say it's a fair game :p

:( it is sad to see that you cant make your own choice about what to use (since you have to do extra sorcery if you want to change your default browser), by the way how microsoft knew you are using firefox (they are worse that NSA) this is a privacy matter, mmm while i do have installed windows 10 in this machine i think that I will downgrade to windows 8.1 in a couple of months, after all windows 8.1 support drops until 2022 so... there would be enough time to avoid windows 10 :D

Sadly (as hjlbx illustrated) aggressive steps in business spill over into our world making our experiences in life considerably less joyful. @gricardo21, I hope you'll stay with Windows 10 as I'm confident something proactive can be done about the alerts mentioned which I neither like:( nor accept. ..but have not seen.o_O

Somewhat off topic, the form of such repercussions are not too far off from the literal break in a sewer pipe I saw reported on the news today, welling up, in Los Angeles. Huge amounts of this (to say the least) "dirty" water then made it's way to
:eek:the sea via a spillway, and the lovely local beaches stretching miles to the south, and reaching as far as Orange County, have been closed. This is for the safety of people whom would normally enjoy the relief of cool water at the beach on a hot day.

When something is dangerously wrong, and even after it is repaired, there is damage done that must be waited on to dissipate. Confidence is shaken.
Deathly hazards in traffic, and others which exist in our surroundings, can usually be traced back to a cause often born from neglect of care or mismanagement. Other times, they may be seen as acts of God as some would believe,
..but negligence is most often a crime not punished.
Back on topic. I think Microsoft can, and should, tone down their insidious bashing of competitors through manipulating
us! They should instead focus positive energies toward creating a better all around browser we can all be excited and happy to use!:)

thx for your advice, but microsoft is just to agressive with windows10, the last thing i need to hear is that they spy on us via the camera or mic, everybody complains about these "ways to improve customer experience through windows", so then no thx, personally beside privacy there are a lot of stuff i dont like from win 10, so i will stick with windows 8.1 :D will be much better

Thanks for the share. It illustrated strong arguments that should not be ignored.
I am glad we all still have choices, & understand & respect yours.:)

What are you on about?

On Windows 10, it's a lure to promote Edge to non-Edge users, nothing more. Heck, even Steam knows what running on your PC, without asking you.

If you try and access your iCloud Mail on Chrome for Android, you'll get a message that it's not a supported browser, so does that mean Apple know you are using Chrome, yes (from your User Agent), but they are NOT spying nor a Privacy Matter.

All this Microsoft / Windows 10 SPYING, stealing your passwords, spending your money and tracking your whereabouts need to stop. It's complete rubbish.

Though I have a question, about how are Microsoft worse than NSA, GCHQ and other Anti-Terrorism Organisations? I wasn't aware MS partnering with Kind Financials was a negative movement.

Nothing left to say on this matter. :D

How is this a surprise? Microsoft has been aggressively advertising their web services and new desktop browser in an attempt to regain market share. Even if what they are advertising is true, by doing so we lose control over our PCs; what was once our safe haven from the internet is now THE Internet. Hell, even Google does something similar on their search page recommending you to download their Chrome product.

i think you didnt notice my sarcasm here, well my point was that microsoft should not collect the list of installed programs to make a suggestion... it is like an adware that based on you browsing habits offers you the "best stuff" while shopping?, tho we do accept the EULA while installing, i think that no one knows what "collecting information" means...

PDT: in any case is not fair to offer ads to people who buy the software, my univ pay my windows 10 copy so??? if they are paying for something is nonsense to "pay for ads" also
