Users of the Home edition would not be able to defer automatic updates, according to Microsoft's Windows 10 specifications.

"A new Windows 10 specifications page posted by Microsoft provides system requirements, notes and other facts about the upcoming new operating system software. And one section in particular reveals a change to the way Microsoft will let you handle updates.

"Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available," the Descriptions page explains. "Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates."

The wording is a bit vague and can be misinterpreted, especially the term "automatically available." But assuming I'm reading it correctly, the option to defer or delay updates will not be present in Windows 10 Home edition, only in Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise. And for some users, that might be a problem."

What do you think of forced updates for Home edition users?
If this was the case, would you consider upgrading to the Pro version?
If it were only Critical Security updates, would you be satisfied with their decision?

As long as the updates are not faulty and cause no problems then I'm fine with it.

I feel as if Microsoft would remove it it many people started to complain.

The existing details are vague, so we shall see if Microsoft will clarify on them. IMO, I don't think it's a huge problem, as long as Recommended updates remain Optional, as it's the cause for most unwanted updates.

I agree with @Fedora that if the security updates are stable and properly tested, then it should be no problems.

Coercing end users to install potentially faulty updates is, I think, not a good idea. On the other hand, Microsoft is striving for seamless integration a la devices, OS, and so forth.

I'm just glad I have Windows 7 Ultimate so I'll get a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and not have the updates forced upon me.

I am going to be waiting sometime before even thinking about windows 10, to see how this all turns out. Windows 8 to windows 8.1 was a major headache for a lot of people with compatibility issues due to hardware manufactures and software companies and microsoft not being on the same page.

As for the topic, if indeed it is forced updates, i tend to agree as long as it remains stable, it would not be a big deal, but on the other hand, removing the freedom of choice for users pretty much sucks, and is distasteful in my opinion.

Many reasons for that:

1) Windows 10 Home must be the leader for increasing its market shares dramatically as possible once its began; surely they want to provide new outcome result which this OS will be the next XP or 7.

2) One year upgrade is likely their rush deadline so as long there's nothing wrong on Windows 10 production then its fine since its free to use and lifetime already.

But here's a twist.

If a user set Windows Update as not automatic then therefore Home/Pro/Enterprise have right to decide for that.

Secondly, that Windows 10 notification tool might be a pre-requisite to verify so if you didn't install that then no upgrade should appear for that.

In such logic; once the settings is enforced from WU its very possible to be altered programatically unless to do so. ;)
