Windows 8.1 is almost here, as Microsoft has promised to release it for download starting October 17, but only in some specific regions across the United States.

The update will show up in the Windows Store and will be available with just one click for all Windows 8 users, with Microsoft expected to automate the whole process and thus make it very straightforward for both beginners and those more experienced.

In case you’re currently running Windows 7, Vista, or XP, Windows 8.1 will only be available as a stand-alone purchase. A core license will be sold for $119.99 (€90), while the professional package will have a price tag of $199.99 (€150).

As you probably know by now, Windows 8.1 will bring quite a lot of improvements on Windows 8 devices, including Internet Explorer 11, Start screen customization options, and a brand new Start button.
