they say that because maybe of some setup in it that support students and their activity and work .you can use it,don't worry

The college/university need to have DreamSpark Premium, in order to have access to Windows 8 Pro. Plus you need to have a student account to access DreamSpark (formly MSDNAA) in order to access it, which is set-up when you enter university usually if you're an Engineering or Computer Science student.
