Hi,

The work on Release Candidate began in February with the build 8275 from the WinMAIN branch.

Microsoft is now entering in the last interesting phase of developement, namely, the integration of the latest features to the main code, adding the last touches to the UI, and accentuated the perfomances of the system.

The notable changes are the addition of color set, some were already present in several Milestone 3 build, the return of Windows to Go, various changes in the UI, performance improvements and the return of « staged » build.

We will see in more detail each item listed in our next article.

Stay tuned

Unless they add an option that makes Windows 8 usable for desktop users I'm not even touching this one...

And it is..

You should see the complaints from unpleased Mac users about the new Mountain Lion.

Windows 8 Release Candidate in late May-early June?

The Windows 8 Consumer Preview version has been out for almost a month now but Microsoft is still busy working on the OS in preparation for its next phase, the Release Candidate version. Now a new report claims that it has a time table on when the RC version will be offered to the public.

According to WinUnleaked.tk, via unnamed sources, the Release Candidate version of Windows 8 will be launched by Microsoft sometime in late May or early June. That would seem to be consistent with the other rumors that Microsoft will launch the final version of Windows 8, for both the x86 and ARM processors, sometime in October.

This weekend, the Windows 8 news site WinUnleaked.tk revealed that it had received a copy of a pre-release candidate version of the OS. The site offered up some tidbits of information about the build, and also stated that the Release Candidate version was being targeted by Microsoft for a public release sometime in late May or early June.

Now WinUnleaked.tk has posted a few more screenshots from this pre-RC build. The screenshots are pretty minor but do have a couple of interesting little features. In the screenshot above, the Windows 8 Consumer Preview Setup label has been changed simply to say Windows Setup.

Windows 8 China SKU in the works?

For the past few days, WinUnleaked.tk has been offering up a number of news posts and screenshots based on a leaked copy of a more recent internal Windows 8 build than the Consumer Preview version released just over a month ago. Today, that trend continued with its latest post, which may or may not indicate that Microsoft could release a special cheaper version of Windows 8 specifically for the Chinese market.

According to the article, the name of the SKU is 'CoreCountrySpecific', but it is labeled Windows 8 for China in the screenshots that accompany the story. The SKU can apparently be installed only with a Chinese ISO. The article adds that if you try to do so with an English ISO, a Blue Screen of Death alert appears with the error message "Bad MUI".

More Windows 8 Post-Beta Details Emerge

Microsoft is well underway with the development of the next flavor of its Windows 8 platform, expected to land in the next few months as a Release Candidate.

Currently in post-Beta stage, Windows 8 is undergoing various changes that should become available with the RC bits.

Microsoft keeps mum on the changes it is currently applying to the platform, but leaked info on the matter did make it online.

Courtesy of WinUnleaked.tk, we now learn that, among the various Windows 8 SKUs that Microsoft is getting ready for launch, there will also be one called “Core.”

Apparently, this version of the operating system is branded simply Windows 8, and might be launched simply as a classic flavor of the platform (it could be a stripped-down, “Basic” SKU).

No special features were spotted in this OS iteration for the time being but, since the development of the various Windows 8 SKUs has just kicked off, chances are that these differences will begin to emerge soon.

Rumor: Windows 8 Release Candidate to be called "Release Preview"

In February, Microsoft launched the beta version of Windows 8, but described it as a "Consumer Preview" version. Now a new rumor claims that Microsoft will also refer to the release candidate version of Windows 8 under another title.

The Windows 8 news site WinUnleaked.tk, which has been reliable in the past, claims that when the Release Candidate is launched, it will actually be called the Windows 8 "Release Preview." It also repeats a previous claim that the RC/RP version of Windows 8 will be launched sometime in late May or early June.
