Tech giant Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring back the Start button in Windows Blue, but a new report claims that such a feature would only be available in the stable version of the OS.

This means that developers and all the other users who will install the preview build due next month won’t be able to give the Start button a try, according to Mary Jo Foley’s of ZDNet.

It appears that in addition to a Start button, the company is also looking to implement even more Start Screen customization options, plus an updated Charms Bar with the focus on desktop users.

Most of these options are expected to be introduced before Blue hits RTM, so none of them will actually be available in the public beta. Just like Microsoft already confirmed, the preview version of Windows Blue is set to hit the shelves next month at the BUILD developer conference.

The only thing a problem are 3rd party programs designed to add start menu for Windows 8 based really as themes and may become a bit useless. (once start menu back)

Users must understand the way StartScreen works and the complications isn't a 99% caused of trouble since lots of assistance are at corner.

But .. i don't want a start menu. Hope that it is optional.

Hopefully, Neowin article says so but I won't get my hopes up yet until I see it for myself.

I also don't want a start button as I am adjusted and enjoy using the metro StartScreen fast and efficiently compared to what a Windows 7 style start menu could do.

If there is an option to disable / enable the start button I will be happy, But if Microsoft forces it onto users I'll wait until a 3rd party hack or tool releases that gets rid of it for those of us that get along fine without it.

It looks like the new start button might be optional where you can hide it or disable it but it will be installed with Windows Blue. You won't have to use it if you don't want to, but it may have added features not present in the start screen you may not be able to access these new features without using it.

This might be a little too late, I have used IObit Start Menu since I got my Windows 8 laptop because it makes things so much easier for me. Of coarse the metro start screen is cool but not as convenient. Since it is unknown just how the new start button will function, many users might still want to use third party start menu alternatives. If you like the start menu on Windows 7 then IObit Start Menu will work perfect for you. Plus it gives you easy access to switch between desktop and metro with just one click and boot directly into desktop.

The start screen works excellent for touch screen tablets and mobile systems but was a bad idea for non-touch screens and desktops.

So Microsoft really does control how you use your new system, they taught us to depend on the start menu since 1995, then without giving us any options to keep using it they remove it and try to teach us how to use metro start screen, after loosing tons of sells and negative feedback from users now they say you will have to use start menu once again if you want all the features in Windows Blue.

They were planing on getting rid of the desktop for Bing backgrounds but have scratched that idea since many users complained.

Who knows what Microsoft will try to remove from future Windows but they will probably want to listen to users before making another big costly mistake. If you are one of the users who just love the new metro start screen and don't miss the start menu, you are in the rare minority group.

Thanks.:D

Hmph disappointing....start button will be useless to me, metro is much more efficient.

Thanks for sharing, Littlebits.
