Yahoo has disclosed that in addition to its September hacking incident, another “unauthorized third-party” obtained data from more than 1 billion user accounts. The company claims that the information stolen may include names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords, and “in some cases” encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers.

Thank you for the article, Janl1992l. I'd nearly posted a close duplicate myself.
Here are (2) bits from USA Today's article I'll share:

The fact that the breach went unnoticed for so long isn’t surprising, said Arun Vishwanath, a security expert at the University at Buffalo.

“The sobering facts are that almost all such hacks are only accidentally discovered and that hackers usually stay in the system undetected for at least a year if not more. Yahoo's case is not so unique. Only its scale is troubling,” he said.

***

Some in the security community said Yahoo had not been as concerned with security as it might have been.

“In our interactions with Yahoo over the years, there has been a consistent lack of interest in security as well as a palpable arrogance in their ability to manage their security without any help from the outside. As we said in our last interaction, ‘thank you for the meeting and the best of luck doing everything yourself,’” said Philip Lieberman, president of Los Angeles-based Lieberman Software.

OK. Now, after all of the above that's been said & (not) done, my wife happens to rely on her Yahoo e-mail address which she's quite attached to. She's also talking about closing it. You see, we have been using that "Stick" ElectricSheep has never touched far too much!! :D
My advice has been for her to "Keep it", but change her password (again) and (more importantly) to have her Yahoo mail forwarded to Gmail.

So, tell me what you think. Do you (my Friends) think that would be enough??o_O

Thanks in advance,
~Cats :D

I have got a yahoo account since 2005 (not my main account), I always retrieve / send mail using a local app, changed my password several times (very strong ones) and never noticed any hack :) (Maybe the fact it is not @yahoo.com help !? )
