I open file explorer, or notepad, or ccleaner or any app actually, resize it and put it anywhere on my desktop screen.

Close explorer or any of the above-mentioned apps or software, open it again, the windows opens in the center of the screen and the default size.

Why doesn't Windows 11 remember the position and size of any window?

This is something that has been a feature since windows 95.

I have only one display, I have tried display settings, folder settings, even closing with Ctrl…

Nothing seems to work… It's a clean install too.

* I did however turn off one-drive this time.

Your annoying experience is, unfortunately, the Windows 11 default behavior now.

Unless you are using attached monitors and either Windows' built-in or monitor OEM application placement software.

There's freeware software (e.g. Microsoft PowerToys - Fancy Zones) to manage application placement on your system monitor as well, without needing a connected monitor. However, I would not count on any of them working at all because of the changes that Microsoft made to its Desktop Experience features. Microsoft removed the "Remember window locations when resizing or minimizing" under Settings, which obviously means that Windows 11 is no longer supporting this feature.

There's some suggestions here as well, but I have no idea if they work on Windows 11 now:

TY Tried fancy and it didn't work for me, but this one did...No install needed

I don't have this issue on my Windows 11 install. I bet it's some optimization software you use(d) because they are known for causing many issues with the Windows and other programs. If I remember correctly, CCleaner has option to reset window sizes as well as their location.

Here is how window management works on my laptop:

IF you use Shell Folder Fix....

Make a folder in C: Program Files called ShellFoldeFix Place the Zip in there and install it.

Then make a shortcut to the desktop, and use Winkey Plus R, and shell:startup to put the shortcut in that startup folder. Put it in there even if it shows one already.

Then make sure to go to properties for shell folder fix and make sure you have full permission.

It's working for me, and it starts with Win 11

This looks really promising, but could you clarify this part a little bit further? "Then make a shortcut to the desktop, and use Winkey Plus R, and shell:startup to put the shortcut in that startup folder. Put it in there even if it shows one already."

What exactly do you not understand?
  1. I'll assume you know how to create a desktop shortcut.
  2. Open the Run dialog box, type "shell:startup," and press Enter. A folder will open.
  3. Place the shortcut you created in step 1 in the folder you opened in step 2.

Also windows blinds and windows fences exist. Fences are a very low cost and better alternative to PowerToys

Oh ok, I get it now. Well coincidentally, I wondered if the trick wasn't just an issue of running the app within the C:drive program folder, so I unzipped it, and dragged the files into a blank folder that I in turn dragged into the program folder, and it seems to be working fine at the moment. If I start seeing some snags in it, i'll redo it with that method.

I love Stardock apps. I put DeskScapes11 on my girlfriends computer and instantly became her hero. :geek:
I spent a few days downloading around 100 Dreams and put them in a folder for her to change at will.
