Steps taken to resolve, but have been unsuccessful

None necessary so far... or at least I haven't noticed any necessity.

I have downloaded this software a while ago in order to download videos posted by family members... a wedding and a funeral. No problems so far, but I have spoken to people who has been experiencing various problems with popups since they downloaded this program. Softonic had options for third party downloads, but I've unticked them all. Would there still be a chance that I could start experiencing problems later, or would the problems be eliminated by the "unticking" of the third party download options?

Well Softonic is a breding place of download wrappers that contains bundled program which can be adware or PUP.

As long you untick them then no any problems should exist however better download from alternatives ones like Softpedia or Majorgeeks.

Use Unchecky to automatic disable any checkboxes prior to download bundled stuffs.
