For starters, re-enable the default Windows 8 security;
- Windows Defender
- Windows Smartscreen
- Windows Firewall
- UAC on default
- Windows Update to automatic

Work on from there, deciding what security works best for you.

Just to mention it, Smartscreen will often blocks the execution of known Antimalware tools like AdwCleaner, JRT, RogueKiller, etc. You can still safely execute them. It's good to leave Smartscreen enabled on your system, just saying that it have some "false detections" too sometimes.

Thank you, zanzibari, for sharing your configuration. As you can plainly see, our fellow members and staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience which includes many more choices than even a single person with multiple systems could reasonably apply all at once!!:p:D I'm in agreement with keeping your system simple for now. Please feel at libetyr to ask any of us a question either here or by clicking onto your "In box" to send any one (or more) of us a question. We'll do our best to help, answer, and not to confuse:confused: you!!:D
