Dash Browser (from Easy Living) is an adware program that pretends to be the Google Chrome browser but is instead a customized version of the open-source Chromium web browser project from Google.
Dash Browser is commonly bundled with other free programs that you download off of the Internet. Unfortunately, some free downloads do not adequately disclose that other software will also be installed and you may find that you have installed Dash Browser without your knowledge.
The developers behind Dash Browser used the Chromium open-source project to compile a Chrome look-alike that has the additional features of inserting and overlaying advertisements into web sites and displaying pop-up windows with annoying video ads. To make matters worse, when the Dash Browser is installed it will configure itself to be the default browser for web sites and for .gif, .htm, .html, .jpeg, .jpg, .pdf, .png, .shtml, .webp, .xht, and .xhtml documents.
When installed, most people will use Dash Browser thinking it’s the normal Chrome browser. The difference is that while using it, Dash Browser will inject advertisements onto web sites that you visit.
The Dash Browser advertisements will have different text under the pop-up: “Powered by Dash Browser“, “Brought to you by Dash Browser“, “You’ve received a premium offer from Dash Browser” or “Ads by Dash Browser“.
You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this Dash Browser adware. Be very careful what you agree to install.
Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place. It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.
