China-Aligned Bronze Sandcastle Abuses Sandboxie DLL Sideloading to Deploy Backdoors

Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a previously undocumented China-aligned threat cluster known as Bronze Sandcastle that has been observed targeting organizations in Asia and Africa since mid-2025. "The most distinctive technical marker for Bronze Sandcastle is its consistent use of Sandboxie DLL sideloading," Sophos security researcher Gabor Szappanos said in a post published

Critical Vulnerabilities in PHP Require Immediate Patching

CISA strongly urges organizations to immediately patch the recently disclosed critical vulnerabilities in PHP, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619. These vulnerabilities, known as “php2shell,” allow for unauthenticated remote code execution in PHP and affect all PHP installations serving web requests. Organizations should immediately update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, or 8.2.35 to fix these vulnerabilities. While CISA has not observed exploitation of these vulnerabilities as of the time of publication, they pose a risk to organizations if left unpatched.  CISA urges organizations to take the following actions: Identify and inventory systems running any version of PHP across your organization.  PHP is often a component of other software and prevalence may not be directly observable. Apply the patch immediately, prioritizing internet-facing systems. Organizations that cannot update immediately, or that continue to use PHP 8.1 or earlier unsupported versions, should take PHP-based systems offline until they can be patched or updated. A web application firewall may provide some protection until systems are updated or patched. Review the official PHP security advisory for guidance on patching. Monitor for suspicious activity, including PHP worker processes launching shells or downloading tools.  CISA urges network defenders to review the following advisory and apply necessary updates:  Security Advisory: Critical Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities, Update Now  Disclaimer The information in this report is being provided “as is” for informational purposes

Ransomware gangs have been exploiting Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN flaw since June

Several ransomware groups are exploiting CVE-2026-0257, an authentication bypass in Palo Alto Networks’ PAN-OS GlobalProtect patched in May, to break into organizations in sectors ranging from healthcare and education to government and energy. CVE-2026-0257 stems from the firewalls relying on cookies without performing detailed validation and integrity checking, which allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to bypass security restrictions and establish an unauthorized VPN connection. The vulnerabilities affect the GlobalProtect portal and gateway of PAN’s physical and … More → The post Ransomware gangs have been exploiting Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN flaw since June appeared first on Help Net Security.

Info-stealing malware slipped into OVHcloud CLI releases on GitHub

OVHcloud, the French cloud computing and web hosting company, alerted customers that a hacker tampered with its open-source command-line interface (CLI) tool to spread information-stealing malware. OVHcloud CEO Octave Klaba disclosed the incident on X, warning users who downloaded the latest CLI release that day to update the tool or delete it. According to Klaba, five versions of the CLI were modified, from v0.11.0 through v0.15.0. Version v0.10.0 was unaffected, and the new v0.16.0 release … More → The post Info-stealing malware slipped into OVHcloud CLI releases on GitHub appeared first on Help Net Security.

Bringing AI into the SOC means watching for shadow AI and loose permissions

In this Help Net Security video, Vince Stoffer, Field CTO at Corelight, talks about how AI is changing work in the SOC and how attackers are using the same tools. He explains how LLMs help with vulnerability analysis and detection engineering, including writing SIEM rules and small programs that analyze packets or Zeek metadata. Those using agentic triage report faster work and fewer false positives, and junior analysts can dig deeper into network data.
