Google Drive spam can arrive as a shared file or comment notification, bypassing the mental filter people use for email. Blocking a persistent sender can stop future Drive shares and remove mutual access, but it also affects genuine collaboration with that account.
Before you start
Confirm the file owner and whether the account belongs to someone you actually work with. Do not click links inside the suspicious document or grant it new permissions.Do it step by step
- Open Drive directly rather than through the notification. Locate the unwanted file in Shared with me and inspect its owner without opening embedded links.
- Right-click the file and use Report or block, then choose Block for that account. If the sharing email is easier to identify, use Google's documented Block the sender route.
- Review any other files from the same account and check whether you had previously shared your own files with them; the block changes access in both directions.
- If you opened a credential page or downloaded something from the file, treat that action as a separate incident and secure the relevant account or device.
- Revisit Shared with me after the block takes effect and report obvious abuse through Drive's available controls. Keep a record if harassment may require platform support.
