What it means
Amazon's product and order pages provide ways to contact a third-party seller. Messages kept in the account's Message Center can support an order problem. A seller's request to pay by bank transfer, gift card or outside site is a separate payment path with a different evidence trail. The original order total and checkout terms do not silently expand because a seller writes a persuasive note.
A real-world example
After buying a camera, a seller says the carrier requires another fee through a personal payment link. The buyer's Your Orders page shows the original total and tracking, with no legitimate checkout step for the new fee.
What to do
Use Your Orders and the native seller-contact option to ask for clarification. Verify shipping status and any charge with Amazon Customer Service. Preserve the message, refuse off-platform payment and report a suspicious seller through Amazon's controls.
The distinction that matters
A seller can be genuine but mistaken, or its account can be compromised. Keeping a message on-platform does not make every instruction trustworthy, yet moving payment off-platform removes important records and may change remedy options. Country-specific guarantees differ, so inspect the help options attached to your actual order. Do not email personal documents or payment-card details to an address supplied in a seller chat when an official account flow exists.
