An Android app asks for Accessibility access: decide before granting it

Accessibility services can legitimately help people use a device, but an app with this access may read screen content and interact with other apps on a user's behalf. A flashlight, coupon or unknown installer that demands it deserves serious scrutiny.

Before you start

Identify the app's official publisher and the precise accessibility function you need. If a trusted accessibility tool is essential to you, arrange help before changing its settings.

Do it step by step

  1. Read the permission explanation and pause before selecting Allow or changing restricted settings. Note the exact app name and requested service.
  2. Open the app's official store listing and vendor documentation independently. Check whether the feature actually depends on reading or controlling the screen.
  3. If the request does not fit the app's purpose, deny it. Use the app without that feature or remove the app if it pressures you to override protections.
  4. If you already granted access, open Settings, Accessibility, Installed apps or services, and review enabled services. Turn off an unauthorized one.
  5. If the app interacted with banking, passwords or account screens, secure those accounts from a trusted device and check recent activity. Remove the suspicious app through normal Android controls.

Check the result

The service list should show only tools you recognize and need. After revocation, confirm the suspicious app cannot still perform screen-control actions.

If something goes wrong

Menu names vary by Android version and manufacturer. Some legitimate assistive functions require broad access; the right decision depends on the app's verified purpose.

Know the limit
