What it means
Remote Lock can request a screen lock through android.com/lock with a verified phone number when a supported phone is lost. It is helpful when Google Account sign-in is not immediately available, but it only locks the screen and has device, SIM, Find Hub and internet prerequisites. Find Hub, accessed through the Google Account, offers broader locate, secure and erase options when available. Both rely on eventual device connectivity for remote effects.
A real-world example
A traveler borrows a laptop and uses their number to request Remote Lock quickly. Later, on a trusted device, they sign in to Find Hub to inspect the last known location and decide whether to erase the phone.
What to do
Prepare both routes before traveling. Verify the number, screen lock and Find Hub setting, and store Google recovery details away from the phone. If stolen, contact the carrier as well.
The distinction that matters
Remote Lock does not reveal a live location and does not wipe data. Find Hub's last known location is a timestamped clue, not proof of a current physical position. Neither replaces account session review after an unlocked device disappears. A carrier SIM suspension is separate again: it can stop service misuse, but cannot by itself erase files or revoke online account sessions already present on the phone.
