Audit Android Trusted places after moving home or changing jobs

Android Trusted places can influence features such as Extend Unlock and Identity Check. Google says all settings use the same saved places rather than independent lists. A location that keeps a phone unlocked for convenience can therefore also affect when some extra biometric checks apply. The estimated boundary may extend about 100 meters and location signals are not perfect. Review the list after moving, changing jobs or sharing a building with others.

Before you start​

Have access to the phone's PIN or biometrics and a working location service. Know whether Extend Unlock is active; turning off a place may make the phone lock sooner, which is usually safer but can surprise a user relying on a specific workflow.

Do it step by step​

1. Open Settings, Location, Location services and Trusted places. Authenticate as requested. Some manufacturer layouts differ; Settings search may locate the option.
2. Read every saved place and compare it with your current home and workplace. Delete an old home, former office or temporary address you no longer control.
3. Check which features use the shared list. In Extend Unlock, ask whether you genuinely want the phone to remain unlocked near that location. In Identity Check, understand that the same area can change how extra verification behaves.
4. If adding a new place, select it carefully on the map and give it a recognizable label. Avoid large public venues or transit hubs. Remember the actual boundary can extend beyond the building.
5. Test the lock behavior at home and away from the place using non-sensitive actions. Keep a normal strong screen lock even where the feature treats the area as familiar.
6. Repeat the review after a Google Account home/work address change. Google notes that such a change can remove an address from trusted places, so do not assume the old configuration persists.

Check the result​

Only current, genuinely controlled places remain, and Extend Unlock and Identity Check behave as intended. The user knows which settings share the list.

If something goes wrong​

If the phone appears to misclassify a location, check Wi-Fi, Location Accuracy and the map pin. Avoid increasing the trusted radius by adding multiple nearby addresses; that can widen exposure.

Know the limit​
