What it means
A viewer account may watch a live feed or recordings; an administrator may add users, alter recording rules, change passwords or reposition a camera. Manufacturers vary, so a role label must be checked against actual controls rather than assumed from its name.
A real-world example
A pet sitter only needs a feed for one weekend, but is given an administrator login that can invite more viewers and retain access after the visit.
What to do
Use the narrowest role and time span the product supports. Review sharing after temporary access ends and test that the removed account cannot reconnect.
The distinction that matters
Cloud access can survive a Wi-Fi password change, and shared recordings already downloaded will remain elsewhere. Account permissions, device firmware and network protection are separate layers. The FTC advises checking available viewer and administrator controls before giving access. Review them again after a guest's visit.
