What it means
Website notifications are messages generated by an origin that you previously allowed in Chrome. They can look like operating-system alerts and may appear when the site is no longer open. A genuine antivirus warning originates from the installed security product and can be checked inside that product's app. A web message saying 'virus detected' does not have the ability to scan the whole computer merely because it uses a red icon.
A real-world example
A person clicks Allow on a coupon site. Hours later, a desktop banner demands a phone call to remove a 'Trojan.' The site is listed under Chrome's allowed notifications; the installed security app has no matching event.
What to do
Do not call or pay. Open Chrome Settings, Site settings, Notifications, remove the suspicious site's grant, then check Chrome Safety Check and the real security app independently.
The distinction that matters
A notification permission removal stops future messages from that site; it does not prove the computer is clean or remove installed malware. Pop-up tabs, push notifications and native app alerts require different remedies. If you entered credentials or payment details through the message, address that exposure even after the alert disappears. Verify the exact website origin rather than blocking a legitimate site with a similar name.
