What it means
The mobile Timeline editor can remove a single visit, delete a whole day, delete a range or clear all Timeline data. A wrong restaurant inferred during a real journey usually calls for a corrected place or a one-visit removal, not erasure of the entire trip. The record is device-based, so another signed-in device or optional backup may retain related data. Maps search history is also a separate record.
A real-world example
A traveler wants to remove an erroneous five-minute stop near a station but keep the rest of that day's route. They use More next to the visit rather than Delete day.
What to do
Open Maps, Your Timeline, select the date and inspect nearby entries. Edit the place or choose Remove for that visit. Reopen the day, check other devices and review backup and Maps history if the goal is broad cleanup.
The distinction that matters
Deletion can be irreversible on the affected device. An edited record may be unsuitable as independent proof of where someone was. Removing a visit does not erase public reviews, photos, saved lists or data another person already saw. Use a whole-day or range deletion only after confirming that all records in that period are genuinely intended to go.
