What it means
Family Center lets a connected parent or guardian review a teen's recent Discord activity and receive a weekly summary. Discord lists metadata such as new friends, people messaged or called, call minutes, active and new servers, purchases and gifts. It expressly does not show the text, images or substance of the messages. Connected guardians can manage some privacy and safety settings, while the teen sees the same activity information and knows which accounts are linked.
A real-world example
A guardian notices that a teen contacted a new account several times this week. The summary may identify that contact and activity level, but it cannot reveal whether the conversation was harmless homework coordination, a scam attempt or distress. Treat the signal as a reason for a respectful conversation, not proof of content.
What to do
Before connecting, agree on who may see the summary, how concerns will be discussed and how to report harmful behavior. Review the seven-day activity and safety settings together. Confirm linked guardians periodically and remove an unintended connection.
The distinction that matters
Up to three guardians can connect, but more visibility is not the same as better safety. Discord says Family Center cannot remove a teen from servers or chats, and the activity email is not a real-time alert. Guardian-managed DM, friend-request and sensitive-media settings can help reduce exposure, yet direct conversations and native Block and Report tools remain essential. The teen's privacy is preserved with respect to message contents, but metadata may still be sensitive and should be handled carefully by everyone receiving the weekly email.
