Export Google account data without losing the archive

A data export can help you preserve records before leaving a service or document what is stored in an account. It is not the same as deleting data, transferring every setting or making a continuous backup. A Takeout archive can contain private mail, photos and location-related records, so its storage deserves the same care as the account itself.

Create and check a usable export​

1. Sign in through your usual Google account route and open Google Takeout. Confirm the correct account. Deselect products you do not need; inspect any All data included options so the export scope is deliberate.
2. Choose Next step, a delivery method, a one-time export unless scheduled copies are intended, and a format and archive size your computer can open. Avoid sending a sensitive export into a shared storage account.
3. When Google says the archive is ready, download it promptly. It may be split into several files. Save all parts in a controlled location and do not forward the email link to another person.
4. On a computer, open the archive browser and sample important items such as photos and documents. Compare file counts or recent dates where possible. Keep a second protected copy if this is your only archive.

What Takeout does not promise​

Google says recent changes may be absent between the request and archive creation, and some security data needs a separate export. Downloading does not delete server data.
