Facebook Page task access versus Facebook access

What it means

Facebook access lets a person switch into the Page on Facebook, with full or partial control. Task access supports selected work such as content, messages, ads or insights through tools such as Meta Business Suite, but does not let the person switch into the Page in the same way. Meta documents both routes because a collaborator's job may need one without the other.

A real-world example

A support agent can answer Page inbox messages in Business Suite but says the Page is missing from their Facebook profile switcher. That can be expected under task access. Giving full control just to make the switcher show the Page would increase privilege far beyond inbox work.

What to do

Ask the collaborator which tool and action fail, then inspect Page access with a full-control owner. Assign the specific task or partial Facebook role required, and test the workflow. Review business-portfolio asset access if the Page belongs to one.

The distinction that matters

Task access is not harmless: selected tasks may publish, manage customers or create ads. Facebook access is not necessarily ownership of a business portfolio or personal account. Removing one role may leave another asset route active, so audit both at offboarding and record the exact account used. Meta Page access explanation
