Find and stop an old PayPal automatic-payment agreement

A merchant can hold an automatic-payment agreement that charges your PayPal account again without a fresh PayPal sign-in. It may be called a subscription, saved business or billing agreement. Removing a card from your general wallet is not a reliable way to stop that specific agreement, because it may have its own preferred funding source or backup method. Review the merchant agreement, stop future PayPal charges if appropriate, and separately cancel the underlying service with the merchant.

Before you start​

Know which merchant and service you mean to stop. Record the next billing date, renewal terms, transaction history and any notice requirement. If you still need the service, decide whether to change its funding source rather than canceling access. Open PayPal independently; a renewal email may be forged.

Do it step by step​

1. On the PayPal website, open Settings, Payments, then Subscriptions and saved businesses or Automatic Payments. PayPal's Romania help lists both names because the interface can vary.
2. Select the exact merchant and review status, agreement terms, funding method and backup payment method. Compare the merchant identity with the charge in Activity; one company may have several agreements.
3. If you no longer authorize PayPal to be charged, use Cancel or Stop Paying with PayPal for that agreement, following the current prompt. Confirm the status afterward and save the confirmation.
4. Contact the merchant through its independent website to cancel the subscription or service contract itself, and obtain a cancellation reference. Blocking a PayPal payment route may not end an obligation or stop the merchant from billing through another approved method.
5. Check the next expected billing date and subsequent PayPal Activity. If a charge already posted, request an appropriate refund or open a truthful billing or subscription issue through the Resolution Center within the applicable period.
6. Review other active automatic-payment entries before closing the PayPal account or replacing a card. Keep useful services intact and make a short inventory so a forgotten agreement does not appear later as a mystery charge.

Check the result​

The selected PayPal agreement shows canceled or unlinked, the merchant confirms service cancellation where relevant, and no unrecognized future charge appears at the next billing point.

If something goes wrong​

If the merchant is absent, check the right PayPal account and whether the charge used a card directly rather than PayPal. If you cannot find Cancel, inspect whether the agreement is already inactive or controlled by another account. Contact PayPal through its own help center rather than a number in a suspicious invoice.

Know the limit​

Stopping an automatic payment prevents future PayPal funding under that agreement but does not automatically resolve a contract, fee or past charge. A merchant-specific funding method can take precedence over a general PayPal preference.
