What it means
Lockdown Mode restricts certain iPhone capabilities to reduce the attack surface available to highly sophisticated attacks. Apple explicitly says most people are not targeted this way. It is optional, and its restrictions can affect web content, sharing, messages and wired connections.
A real-world example
A high-risk journalist receives a credible warning about targeted spyware. They turn on Lockdown Mode across supported Apple devices and test vital communications. Someone who sees a generic virus pop-up instead should close the page and verify the account or device problem first.
What to do
Read Apple's feature list, update devices, enable the mode in Settings → Privacy & Security and review any exceptions you need. Preserve suspicious evidence and seek specialized advice for a real targeted threat.
