Make Reddit profile activity less visible without assuming it is private

Reddit added controls that hide posts and comments from the profile by community. They are useful when a public profile stitches unrelated interests into a detailed personal history. Reddit explicitly says the underlying posts and comments remain in their original communities and may appear in search results. Moderators of a community can also see a fuller profile history for 28 days after certain interactions. Profile curation is therefore a visibility adjustment, not retroactive deletion.

Before you start​

Decide what you want to protect: casual visitors to your profile, people in a specific community or public search engines. Review a few old posts before changing settings so you know what is currently exposed. Remove identifying details from your bio and social links if they reveal your real identity; hiding posts alone does not hide those fields.

Do it step by step​

1. On reddit.com, open Settings, Profile and find Curate your profile. On the app, go to your profile and the Profile curation control. Check Content and activity for the communities whose posts you do not want listed on the profile.
2. Choose a selective list or hide all activity from profile visitors, depending on your goal. Review the NSFW-content and follower-count visibility controls separately if they matter to you. Save changes and check the profile from a signed-out browser.
3. Open one hidden post directly in its original community or through its link. Confirm you understand the difference: it can still be visible there even if absent from the profile. Search engines may also have indexed it previously.
4. For a truly identifying old post, consider editing or deleting the post itself after preserving anything you need. Check the community's rules and your own safety situation before announcing why you are changing old content.
5. Review your display name, avatar, banner, bio and connected social links. A reused username or image can identify you across sites even when profile activity is hidden. Use a separate account for activities that should not be linked if that fits the platform's rules.
6. Repeat the signed-out view after several days and when posting in a new community. Reddit says moderators can receive 28-day full-profile visibility after posts, comments, edits, mod mail or joining certain communities, so account for that exception.

Check the result​

Your public profile shows only the activity you intended, and you have confirmed at least one hidden post's continuing visibility at its original location so you do not mistake curation for deletion.

If something goes wrong​

If activity still appears, check which account and community were selected, whether the page is cached and whether you are viewing as the owner or a moderator. If search engines still show a removed page, use their removal tools after the source is actually removed.

Know the limit​
