An accidental deletion in Photos is often reversible for a limited time. Apple's Recently Deleted collection normally holds photos and videos for 30 days before permanent removal from the iPhone, iCloud and associated devices. The exact recovery route matters because deleting from a synced library is not the same as freeing space in a separate backup app.
Before you start
Stop deleting or reorganizing the photo library while searching. Confirm you are signed in with the Apple Account that owned the photo.Do it step by step
- Open the Photos app and go to Recently Deleted. Authenticate if prompted; this collection is protected rather than an ordinary album.
- Search by approximate date, thumbnail and media type. Check whether the item was hidden instead of deleted if it does not appear here.
- Select the desired photo or video and choose Recover. Avoid selecting a large group blindly if only one item is needed.
- Return to the main library and open the restored item. Check that it is the correct version and that it appears on another synced device after synchronization.
- For an important photo, save an independent copy outside the same synced library. If you use shared albums or third-party photo apps, inspect their own retention separately.
