Remove a former agency from a Facebook Page without losing control

A marketing contract can end while an agency employee still has Page access, task access through business tools or another person's credentials. Meta separates Facebook access from task access and warns that full control includes the power to add or remove other people and delete the Page. Offboarding therefore starts by confirming that a trusted owner still holds full control; removing the wrong person first can lock the organization out.

Before you start

List the Page, connected business portfolio, linked Instagram account and ad account affected by the agency's work. Agree who should retain posting, messages and advertising responsibilities. Preserve campaign assets and billing records. Use the official Facebook and Meta Business Suite interfaces; do not accept a 'recovery consultant' asking you to transfer the Page to an unknown portfolio.

Do it step by step

  1. Switch into the correct Page in Facebook. Open Settings and privacy, Settings, Page setup, Page access. Confirm your own access and at least one trusted continuity owner before changing any role.
  2. Review people with Facebook access and people with task access. Match actual accounts to named agency staff, not just display names. Check for pending invitations and unfamiliar full-control users.
  3. Use the Page access controls to remove agency people whose work ended or reduce a remaining collaborator to only necessary tasks. Meta says a person with full control can edit or remove access. Read each confirmation before committing.
  4. If the Page is in a business portfolio, inspect people and partners there as a separate route. A person may have asset access through business tools even if the Page's direct list looks short. Coordinate with the portfolio administrator for controls you cannot change.
  5. Inspect linked Instagram, inbox, scheduled posts, ads and payment settings for material the agency could still operate. Reassign ongoing campaigns and remove obsolete connected tools according to their own controls.
  6. Have a current staff member test the work they need from their own account. Confirm the offboarded person can no longer manage the Page through the applicable route, and document the date, accounts and roles changed.

Check the result

Trusted owners retain full control, current collaborators can complete their assigned tasks, and former agency accounts no longer have active Page or business-asset access through the routes reviewed.

If something goes wrong

If you cannot open Page access, check whether you have only partial or task control. Do not ask the old agency to give a stranger full control as a workaround. If the Page is portfolio-owned, work through its administrator or Meta's official recovery path.

Know the limit

Access removal stops future management but does not retrieve downloaded customer data, copies of ad creatives or posts already published. A full-control user may have changed linked assets, so Page access alone is not a complete offboarding audit. Meta Page access changes Meta Page access roles
