Remove someone from an iPhone shared-password group safely

Apple's shared-password groups let trusted people use selected passwords and passkeys. Removing a person from the group stops future group sharing, but it cannot guarantee they forgot a password or did not save it while access was available.

Before you start

List the accounts you own in the group and prioritize those that person should no longer use. If there is a safety concern, use a trusted device and plan the sequence before announcing any change.

Do it step by step

  1. Open the Passwords app, choose the relevant shared group and inspect its members and entries.
  2. If you own the group, remove the person through the group management control. If you are only a member, consider leaving and review credentials you contributed.
  3. For accounts you own, change passwords or passkeys that the removed person could have used. Do this at each service, not only inside the shared group.
  4. Review sessions, recovery methods and connected devices on those services. Sign out or revoke access where the service supports it.
  5. Confirm the group now lists the intended members and that the new credentials work. Tell remaining trusted members how to use updated credentials without sending them in plain text.

Check the result

Group membership and account credentials should reflect the intended people. Test account access on your device after rotating each important login.

If something goes wrong

Removing an entry from the group is not the same as invalidating that password at the website. If a passkey or login belongs to another person's account, coordinate with its owner.
