Review which iPhone apps may track you across other apps

An app may ask permission to track activity across other companies' apps and websites. The iPhone Tracking setting lets you revisit that choice for apps that requested it. It is a targeted control, not an on-off switch for every form of data collection by an app.

Before you start​

Use a current iPhone you control. If it is managed by a school or employer, some settings can be restricted; review local policy before changing them.

Do it step by step​

1. Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Tracking. Read the list of apps that have requested permission.
2. For each app, decide whether cross-app tracking is necessary for how you use it. Turn off permission for apps that do not need it.
3. If you do not want future requests, turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track. Check the list again after installing new apps or changing devices.
4. Review Location Services, Photos, Contacts and other permissions separately in Privacy & Security. Tracking permission does not replace these controls.
5. Read the app's own privacy information and account settings for collection that occurs inside the app. If an app behaves unexpectedly after the change, use its legitimate support route rather than restoring every permission at once.

Check the result​

Return to Tracking and confirm the chosen apps are off. A changed switch is the direct result; reduced ads or different content is not a reliable way to measure the permission.

If something goes wrong​

Apple notes that some accounts or devices may not show the request switch as available. Do not treat a missing app in the list as evidence that it gathers no data.

Know the limit​
