What it means
A private group invite link allows people who possess it to request or gain entry under its current rules. Revoking that link prevents future use of that particular URL. It does not automatically remove users who joined while it worked. Group administrators must inspect membership and other active links separately. An expiring or use-limited replacement can reduce future exposure, and join approval may add a human decision.
A real-world example
A private study group link is posted publicly. The admin revokes it, but three unknown accounts remain in the member list because they entered before revocation.
What to do
Revoke the exposed link, review recent joins and member permissions, remove unauthorized accounts, and create a controlled replacement link for known participants. Test the old URL and monitor requests.
The distinction that matters
A public group or channel username offers another entry path even after a private invite is revoked. Removing a member cannot retrieve messages they read or files they downloaded. A group labeled private is only as confidential as its members and their devices. If an administrator can create a new broad link, coordinate roles and link policy as well as rotating the one URL. Confirm that the old link fails in a real join test.
